One pot breakfast cooked outdoors over charcoal in a cast iron skillet pan

Ingredients

    Directions

This is a simple one pot breakfast that can be cooked on a normal cooker or whilst camping on a portable gas cooker or as I have done on an open fire. For this recipe I have chosen to cook over charcoal in an open fire pit, which is handy to use on campsites or wild camping to protect the ground underneath from heat damage. Save on the washing up and cook all of you ingredients in one pan, when you have finished cooking and served up your one pot breakfast add some water to the iron skillet to loosen any sticky bits left in the pan from cooking. This will make it much easier when you have finished eating and need to clean up the pan.

    Step1
    Onions cooked for breakfast

Chop the onions into rustic pieces, don't worry about being consistent with the size of the pieces. Place the cast ion skillet onto the fire or charcoal with some oil and wait for it to heat up then add the onions to fry for 5 mins before adding any more ingredients

    Step2
    Sausages cooking for breakfast

Add sausages to the pan and fry, keep turning during cooking to get nice even browning all round.

    Step3
    Tomatoes cooking for breakfast

Add halved tomatoes to the pan, I would normally start them in the pan cut side down. Wait for the tomatoes to cook for a few minutes before turning. Tip: watch the side of the tomatoes, as they cook the sides will change colour

    Step4
    Bacon cooking for breakfast

If the onions are cooking too much remove from the pan and add later. Add the bacon

    Step5
    Cooked breakfast with Black pudding

Add the sliced black pudding pudding to the pan

    Step6
    Fried egg cooking

Add onions back in to warm ready for serving. Move the cooked ingredients to the outside of the pan to make space and crack a hens egg into the center of the pan
